“Treelan: organic, meditative, joyful, colourful music” –

Three superb musicians reaching across countries and continents, constructing sonic bridges that aspire towards human sharing. Yet another inspired music experiment in Ireland for the world.” Míchéal Ó Súilleabháin (Director, Irish World Academy of Music and Dance)

Treelan are: Éamonn Cagney – Percussion, Martin Tourish – Piano Accordion, Niwel Tsumbu – Guitar, Vocals

Treelan came together in 2013 when I approached Martin Tourish with a long held musical dream of mine, a collaboration to create new percussion-influenced Irish music. We then invited Niwel Tsumbu, master Congolese guitarist to lend his virtuosity to the music. Later that year we were awarded funding by The Arts Council’s Deis traditional arts scheme to compose new music together, and worked with the awesome videographer Colm Walsh. The work we did that week can be seen here:

Having been performing together for a few years, we are delighted to be funded by The Arts Council Touring Award for the 2016 release of our album and Irish tour. We’ve been planning this album for years, and we’re very proud of it. We love playing together but our busy schedules as musicians have in the past not allowed this. Finally we have an opportunity to play more consistently together than ever before and we can’t wait! Treelan play Belfast, Donegal, Dublin, Dingle, Wexford and many more, see my Live page for details!
